What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic medicine is a distinct healthcare specialty that blends the wisdom of traditional healing practices with the science of modern medicine. Naturopathic medicine is focused on providing individualized healthcare, recognizing that no two human beings have the same needs. Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) are trained to engage in deep listening of their patients’ health stories in order to find the root cause of disease.
Naturopathic Doctors attend a rigorous 4-year doctoral program and must pass a series of board examinations to obtain licensure. NDs are trained as primary care physicians and are equipped to manage both acute and chronic health conditions. In addition to studying the same basic sciences as Medical Doctors, NDs are also educated in natural modalities such as lifestyle modification, nutritional counseling, botanical medicine, and homeopathy. NDs are able to prescribe pharmaceutical medications but work with the therapeutic order, ensuring patients have a strong foundation for health and receive the least invasive and most effective treatments possible.
Six Principles of Naturopathic Medicine
First Do No Harm
I utilize the least forceful and most effective therapies first
in order to reduce risk and minimize harmful side effects.
The Healing Power of Nature
Within each of us lies an innate ability to heal.
When we remove obstacles that get in the way of health, magic happens.
Our bodies begin to harmonize and regenerate, bringing us to a place of optimal wellness.
Identify and Treat the Cause
I see symptoms as a clue that there is an imbalance in the body.
The path to wellness lies in addressing the root cause, rather than merely alleviating symptoms.
Doctor As Teacher
Knowledge is power. I strive to educate, inspire, and empower you to make
informed decisions about your health.
Treat the Whole Person
I do not treat symptoms or diseases. I treat unique individuals.
In order to help my patients obtain optimal health,
I address each person fully, treating the mind, body, and spirit.
Prevention
I am not only here to pick you up when you are down.
I am here to help you maintain your health and prevent disease down the road.
